COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS

2025-2026 | Season 11

Team Information

The Dance Movement provides premier, high-quality dance training in Erie, CO, within a nurturing, safe, and fun environment. By focusing on proper technique and creative, age-appropriate choreography, TDM’s competitive teams (Squad and Company) consistently achieve prestigious local, regional, and national recognition.

We have two (2) Competitive Team options for our dancers, our Squad Team and Company. These teams are trained by the same Master Faculty members and have the option to take classes together. We truly are one family here at TDM!

Competitive Team Auditions are held each May. Prior to the Audition Date, the TDM Faculty will host a parent meeting that outlines all pertinent information for our next season (2026-2027). To register for this meeting or if you have any questions, please reach out to us at tdmcolorado@gmail.com.

Please make sure to follow our Instagram account @the_dancemovement for updates throughout the season.

THE SQUAD

The Squad is geared toward the dancer who loves to perform, train and compete, but might still have other interests outside of dance. The Squad receives the same level of training as our sister team, Company, just at a lower financial and time commitment level. This is also the perfect team for dancers who prefer to focus on specific dance genres (i.e. jazz. hip hop, contemporary). Squad members train in the genre(s) that compliment their routine styles with our Professional Faculty and are required to take 1-3 weekly classes (required amount of classes depends on the dancer’s age). Squad dancers must participate in at least one competitive group dance, with the group rehearsals scheduled one day per week (no regular weekend classes or rehearsals). Dancers are able to request the amount of group dances to participate in, and there are not any choreography auditions (all group dance placements are selected by the Company Director / Studio Owner). Squad group dances receive 30 minutes of rehearsal time per dance every other week, just like our sister team. This team competes at three (3) local competitions. In addition to group competitive routines, Squad members have the option to learn and compete a solo, duo and/or trio. Squad dancers train alongside our Company team with the same Faculty members, and are welcome to take additional studio classes. Squad members also are welcome to attend convention workshop classes at Company events.

THE COMPANY

The Company is designed for highly-competitive dancers who commit to an intense, well-rounded training schedule. This national award-winning team requires multiple days of technique classes in a variety of genres including ballet, jazz, contemporary and strength / conditioning, as well as 1-2 days of group dance rehearsals. Classes are separated by age in order to appropriately train dancers based on body development. These dancers compete at five (5) local / Regional Competitions and Conventions. We also know how important it is for our dancers to take advantage of extra training opportunities at workshops and conventions. When it doesn’t conflict with weekend choreography or rehearsals, we support our dancers attendance at other events to help maximize their development and growth! We have many dancers who travel throughout the Country as part of sponsorships, ambassadorships and for additional competition and training opportunities.

Company team members are required to participate in a minimum of two (2) group dances, attend required weekly rehearsals for group routines and maintain regular attendance in weekly classes (1-5.5 hrs/week depending on the age). Classes and rehearsals are held during the weekdays, unless there is a special circumstance. We encourage these dancers to attend additional classes at TDM. Company dancers also have the opportunity to learn compete a solo / duo and/or trio. Our Company dancers have the opportunity to work with world-class renowned guest artists such as Phil Wright, Mallauri Esquibel, Olivia Liberati, Christ Smutek, Ava Flav and more.

If your dancer is interested in joining our 2026-2027 Squad or Company, please send an email to us at tdmcolorado@gmail.com.

The TDM Competitive Team Difference

  • Competitive Teams have the opportunity to train together.

  • TDM does not require an annual deposit for our Competitive Teams.

  • Competitive Team dancers are provided with the option for in-house and/or Guest choreography for groups and solos / duos.

  • Team members are able to request the number of group dances at the beginning of the season.

  • TDM does not hold auditions or charge audition fees for group dances.

  • Both Squad and Company dancers are able to learn and compete a solo and/or duo in the genre of their choice as long as they meet the minimum number of group dances (Squad = 2 group dances; Company = 3 group dances).

  • We believe in quality over quantity….our maximum weekly dance requirement is 5.5 hours / week (for dancers ages 13+). Our group accolades / awards and individual dancer achievements (solos / scholarships / ambassadorships) are a testament to the quality of dance instruction provided.

  • We believe in the importance of rest for injury-prevention which is why our dancers are not required to commit to an intense weekly schedule.

  • We never substitute technique classes for rehearsals. Rehearsals are held during the weekdays in between scheduled classes.

  • Unless there is a special circumstance, Competitive Team dancers are not required to take classes on Friday evenings, Saturdays or Sundays. We encourage our dancers to have a well-rounded life outside of the studio.

  • Nationals are never a requirement as we aim to offer the most cost-affordable Competitive program in the metro area. We do have many students who choose to attend Nationals with other team members or invididually.

  • We believe that High School Competitive Team dancers should have the opportunity to participate in Competitive Dance as well as on High School Poms teams.

  • TDM supports our dancers who would like to attend Intensives and Master Classes at other studios. We love building positive relationships within the dance community!
